“Photography is used as a tool to reveal the constant battle our characters face when living in Langa: The necessity to live anonymously which conflicts with the urge to be seen for who they truly are. Even though the subject is emotional and sad, whenever we engage with the characters, they are very positive and exceptionally fierce. That is why the photography approaches this painful duality of their lives vibrantly and energetically. The images reveal an anonymous life on the streets of Langa on the one hand and expressive poses in curated scenes on the other.”
